Describe your blog in one sentence.
Living a life less ordinary.
How long have you had your blog?
Just 5 months.
What made you decide to start writing a blog?
We wanted to start writing some interesting and engaging content for our audience. We were very much product based and wanted to get something out there that was fun and interesting.
What was your most popular blog piece?
A very short piece and video on under water ice fishing. It got thousands of views: http://blog.chillisauce.co.uk/underwater-ice-fishing-mindboggling/
What was your most memorable comment or share?
A tough question! We get a few people that have taken part in the crazy events that we write about like the guy who took part in the Japanese Tub Racing Festival: http://blog.chillisauce.co.uk/japanese-wooden-tub-racing/
What are the biggest challenges in writing your blog?
Constantly coming up with the new ideas, finding decent photography and making the copy entertaining and grammatically correct (I’m not the best in this field so I get people to check it for me).
How do you promote your blog?
There are links from our main website www.chillisauce.co.uk, and we are also about to start incorporating a lot of the content in a monthly newsletter. If you have any other suggestions please let me know!
How much traffic does your blog generate?
At the moment it’s getting anywhere between 250 and 1000 uniques per day. My goal is to get it to 100,000 uniques per month within about 6 months.
What difference has your blog made to your business?
It’s more of a branding exercise to be honest. It gets our personality across and tells people what we are about.
Which software do you use for your blog and what do you think of it?
Wordpress. It’s great apart from the fact you have to keep on top of updates or risk getting hacked.
What advice would you give to businesses that are thinking of setting up a blog?
Just go for it, make it entertaining (even if you’re selling toilet brushes!), and don’t talk about how great you are!
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not blogging?
I love a spot of fishing – unfortunately I haven’t managed to do the underwater ice fishing yet though!
