Thanks for your comment, Donna. In my opinion there's no "correct" length for a blog (although you'll need at least 200 words for the search engines to pay attention). Blogs work rather nicely when there's a mix of content of different lengths, actually.

I haven't seen Julie & Julia but it sounds like she had a routine in place, which is really important if you're writing your own blog. Updating the company blog does tend to be one of those tasks that gets pushed further and further down the 'to do' list until somebody realises the last update was 6 months ago!

Thank you for this information.

I have done one blog but have been unable to get into a routine of doing it on a regular basis.

This weekend I watched the movie Julie & Julia and I was so envious how she got up every morning and wrote a blog. Is there a proper length for a blog?

Hi Emily :)

I'm a massive fan of article marketing and it's worked very well for my clients as well as (more recently) for my own sites.

The advice in your post is spot-on - a great article, as always.

I've recently been contacted by the editor of a specialist article directory that I use regularly for one of my clients - and this is a really good directory too; one of my favourites, in fact - saying that despite the excellent quality of the articles I submit for my client, recent changes in the way Google views 'duplicate content' (i.e. sites that don't contain a minimum percentage of totally original content are going to apparently be penalised), his directory will no longer be accepting articles that have been published on other directories. So, with much regret, I've had to remove this directory from my submissions list.

Is this something you've come up against? If so, how did you deal with it?

Something I've also noticed with article marketing is that you do sometimes get cheeky publishers who 'spin' your beautiful articles using special software, which makes the articles more 'original' (in the duplicate content sense) but turns them into unreadable gobbledegook. And other cheeky publishers use your content without retaining your biog links, which is very annoying (I've complained to a couple of publishers about this recently).

My point, I suppose, is that article marketing has its plus and minus points, for sure, but having seen such brilliant results over the past couple of years it's something I'm definitely going to continue with!

Hi great tips , good common sense stuff. I was once told by a friend who worked in an agency that she read everything backwards to check for spelling mistakes. Being a clever species it seems our brains will read the first and last characters of a word and infil the middle - it helps us digest information quicker. To stop this you read the word backwards. It works for me

Thanks Carly! I have to say, I've been really overwhelmed at the amount of support - and sponsorship - thus far. Mental health issues can and do affect absolutely anyone and the Samaritans provide crucial support, both to individuals and businesses.
