New infographic reveals content marketing potential

A new infographic from Wishpond has illustrated the promising state of content marketing in 2013. Amongst the key findings were that 21% of marketers say that social media has become more important to their company over the past six months, and that the percentages of marketers who have found a customer through social channels is pretty impressive (52% for Facebook, 36% for Twitter, 43% for LinkedIn). 23% of marketers are investing in blogging and social media this year, and it seems that their investment is already having a recognisable impact.

Matt Cutts settles SEO misconceptions

In a new webmaster video published yesterday, Matt Cutts, Google’s Head of Webspam, shed some light on some of the most common SEO misconceptions. The top three points on his list were: confusing algorithm updates with data refreshes; presuming Panda and Penguin algorithms are about making Google more money in the short term; and spending too much energy and time focused on link building without thinking about users. The most crucial takeaway for content marketers is Cutts’ response to the third point: brands should look to social media and other content led areas to develop better awareness of their websites, rather than investing all their efforts in link building.
