Quarterly Digital Intelligence Briefing highlights importance of content marketing
Econsultancy’s ‘Quarterly Digital Intelligence Briefing: Digital Trends of 2013’ report has referred to 2013 as “the year of content”, saying “content, in all its shapes and forms, is core to everything we do as marketers”. Hiring experts in the field is believed to be one of the most essential factors to success, with 38% reporting that it’s their top concern. An earlier survey from Econsultancy had found that 90% of marketers believe content marketing will become increasingly important over the next twelve months, and this new report concurs, with its conclusion that the single most significant trend in the digital sphere is the continued emergence of content marketing as a standalone discipline.
Tech companies failing to engage through social media
New figures from EML Wildfire’s study has shown that social media engagement has fallen amongst the UK’s top 50 tech companies – despite the fact that usage levels have increased. Only 24% of respondents were using Twitter as a tool for building conversations, compared with 68% in 2011, and on Facebook only 38% even attempted engagement with their fans. Blogging has also gone down in popularity with tech companies – just 28% of the companies surveyed maintain a blog, down from 50% in 2011.

Their blog, Sleep Talkin’ Man, essentially consists of Karen recording Adam’s nocturnal musings, but some of them are downright hilarious. “Ooh! Straight-jackets online! Christmas sorted” and “My ass and personality and the same thing. Huge and in your face” are our favourites – have a read and let us know yours!
